One of the topics I find being raised most often in therapy these days is concern over excessive screen time. While parents have long struggled with helping their children find balance between time on electronics and other activities, the challenge has likely never been more daunting than it is right now. On March 17 the American Academy of Pediatrics published a statement (see: https://services.aap.org/en/news-room/news-releases/aap/2020/aap-finding-ways-to-keep-children-occupied-during-these-challenging-times/ ) that discussed screen time in the midst of the pandemic, and general guidelines were provided. I also recently came across this New York Times article which provided some very helpful, more specific suggestions about how to help navigate media use during these challenging times (see: https://www.nytimes.com/2020/04/13/parenting/manage-screen-time-coronavirus.html). If you find yourself struggling with this topic with your own kids I encourage you to take a look.
